Our 21 oz dark indigo selvedge denim is a true heavyweight raw denim designed for durability, comfort, long-term fading, and everyday wear. Made from deep indigo selvedge denim, this fabric has the substantial feel expected from 21 ounce denim while remaining breathable, comfortable, and easier to break in than many traditional heavyweight jeans.
The raw selvedge denim is brought directly into our Railcar Fine Goods workshop in California, where every pair of jeans is cut, sewn, constructed, and fully finished in-house by our own team. We control the entire production process under one roof, from cutting the raw denim to the final stitch and inspection.
At 21 ounces, this denim provides exceptional durability without feeling unnecessarily rigid or cumbersome. The breathable weave allows the fabric to move and soften naturally with wear, making these heavyweight selvedge jeans comfortable to break in.
The dark indigo raw denim will gradually mold to the wearer and develop unique fades, creases, and character over time. Because of its substantial weight and durable construction, 21 oz selvedge denim can provide years of regular wear and, with proper care and repair, has the potential to remain in service for decades.
The Rebels Fit:
The Railcar signature "Rebels" fit is a medium rise, modern straight fit that's not too wide yet not slim.. The rise has plenty of height to keep you comfortably covered but not too high that it will dig into your stomach.
Designed To Reduce Leg Twist And Denim Torque:
Heavyweight raw denim can be more susceptible to visible leg twisting and torque as the fabric breaks in. Our jean patterns are carefully designed and balanced to greatly reduce these effects.
The leg pattern and construction help the denim fall naturally from the thigh through the leg, minimizing unwanted twisting as the jeans soften and conform to the body.
A Balanced Top Block For Heavyweight Denim:
Heavyweight jeans can also develop excessive bunching through the seat when the pattern is not properly balanced for the additional structure and thickness of the fabric.
Our top block is designed specifically to provide a clean, balanced fit through the waist, rise, hips, and seat. This helps reduce unnecessary seat bunching while maintaining the room needed for comfortable movement. The result is a heavyweight selvedge jean that feels substantial without wearing like a piece of armor.
Cut And Sewn In-house In California, USA:
Every pair of Railcar Fine Goods 21 oz selvedge denim jeans is manufactured in-house at our California workshop. The denim comes to us as raw yardage, and our own team handles the cutting, sewing, construction, finishing, and final inspection.
Keeping production in-house allows us to maintain control over fit, construction, and quality at every stage of manufacturing.

Sizing And Shrinkage Info:
With heavy weight fabric we highly recommend not to size down. Railcar sizes snug, true to size. If your true to size is snug, we would then recommend to size up to account for shrinkage.
Delivery:
We have a limited quantity of this fabric on hand. Orders will be cut and sewn immediately, in the order they are received. Please allow a short 2-3 week delivery time after your order is placed.
Free Chain Stitch Hem:
Your Railcar comes with free chain stitch hemming to your desired length. If this is your first Railcar order, we highly recommend not requesting a custom hem on your jeans because your jeans will not qualify them to be exchanged or returned. If you know your Railcar size, you could request a hem by making a note in the note section when checking out or by email. All customized hemmed jeans are final sale.

How We Make Them Inexpensive:
By only producing what is sold with a little bit of overage in inventory, we are able to keep the cost low and pass the savings along to you. Unlike other brands, we don't manufacture unsold items, which means you are not covering the cost of excess inventory. We are dedicated to only making what will be worn, allowing us to offer these handcrafted at an affordable price.
Oversell Note:
If for some reason we run out of fabric, the later orders will be canceled and fully refunded. You will be notified as soon as it is known. Orders will be made in the order in received.
